David S. Schnapp, MD, Director

Dr. Schnapp has become one of the most experienced and respected Urologic Robotic surgeons in the five boroughs as well as on Long Island.  He has one of the largest robotic case loads in the North Shore LIJ Health System.  He completed a 6 year residency training program in Urology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center under the tutelage of Dr. Arthur Smith, the "Father of Minimally Invasive Urology".  Dr. Schnapp is one of the few robotic surgeons in practice today who also have a vast experience with "open" traditional surgery. Prior to his training on the Da Vinci, he built an extensive surgical experience in both radical retropubic and radical perineal prostatectomy.  His experience in both open and robotic surgical approaches has allowed him to approach some of the most difficult cases with confidence.  He is also expert in the performance of the "nerve sparing technique" which is routinely done to preserve sexual function after prostate removal.

DSS Urology is one of the only private Urologic practices in NY to offer biofeedback therapy for the treatment of urinary incontinence (leakage of urine) in both men and women.  This non-invasive therapy is offered to every one of our post-prostatectomy patients and hastens the return of urinary control after the procedure.  Dr. Schnapp has one of the largest experiences in the performance of penile implantation for intractable erectile dysfunction.  He is also a leader in the placement of the artificial urinary sphincter.  DSS also offers broad expertise in the minimally invasive treatment for BPH (benign enlargement of the prostate gland), Kidney stones, Urinary Incontinence, and Male Infertility.  Dr. Schnapp has taken a special interest in the evolving field of "Testosterone Replacement Therapy" for patients suffering from the clinical effects of low male hormone levels.

DSS Urology was founded in 2000 and has built its reputation on providing cutting edge medical care with a very personal touch.  We recognize that it is becoming more and more difficult to find a physician who can take a personal interest in each and every patient in this age of healthcare turmoil and uncertainty.  In a time when many Doctors are giving up private practice and taking jobs with a hospital or "mega-group", Dr. Schnapp's private practice is thriving and continues to grow at a remarkable rate.  When you call or visit one of our offices, you will find our staff to be warm and welcoming.  This quality of service is very rarely found in present day institutional medicine.
